Me and classic cars

1966 MG Midget

I started tinkering from a young age, helping my father in the garage and taking things apart to see how they worked, and sometimes even putting them back together in a working state!

After being given the old car bug by my parents succession of Morris Minor 1000's I promptly acquired my own transport in the form of a 1956 series one Land Rover. Aged 16 I fully rebuilt it from the bare chassis up and used it as my first car when I passed my driving test.

Since then, I have run and maintained many old cars as everyday transport and fully restored several cars to high standards. My current 'fleet' consists of a fully restored and tuned 1966 MG Midget which I use for sprints and hill climbs, a 1969 Rover Three Thousand Five (P6), a 1948 Ferguson TEA 20 tractor and I still own my 1956 Land Rover.

Working on Classics

Lotus Cortinas

In 2003 I was lucky enough to get a job working as a mechanic for a historic racing team.

I spent over four years working for them, preparing and building cars such as Lotus Cortina's, Ford Mustangs and Mk1 Escorts for events like the Goodwood Revival, the Spa six hours and the Nurburgring Old Timer Grand Prix. The other part of the job was to maintain the owners collection of cars, which included working on Ferrari Dino's and 365 GTBs, a 50s Cadillac, a Rolls Royce and various other prestige vehicles.

During the time I worked there I travelled to many historic motor racing events around Europe and the UK servicing the cars (which in the world of racing means franticly trying to change a gearbox between qualifying and the race) and working in the pit lane. Typically, I would attend around fifteen events a year.

My next job was working for a company specialising in Italian classic sports cars. After being there for 6 months I became very unhappy with the owners standard of workmanship and this experience made me decide to leave and start my own business, where I could be happy with the standard I was working to.

In 2007 I started my own Classic car repair and restoration business. Since then I have worked on a wide and varied range of classic cars, from servicing, to full restorations to a high standard.
